MAGNESIUM AND ITS BENEFITS TO SLEEP
Magnesium, Zinc and Iron are three of the fundamental elements necessary for sleep. Interestingly, Magnesium can be absorbed through our skin as well… It can also help with restless leg syndrome and more.

“I recently went away with my family for a long weekend and of course tried to be economical in my packing and thus leaving certain things at home including my kids favourite bath salts.  On the last night my 4 year old son started complaining about his legs being sore.  Not worrying too much about it, I rubbed on something but he continued to complain throughout the night.  Only the next night back at home at bath time, as I put in the bath salts did I wonder if the lack of the Magnesium salts could have had an impact?  Indeed my son did complain again that night of pain (but only at bedtime) but did not the following nights… what was it about the Magnesium Salts that made the difference?

Most of us know about the benefits and significance of iron and calcium for our bodies, but are very ignorant of the need of magnesium.  Yet it is one of the most common elements in the human cell.  According to the National Institutes of Health:  “Magnesium helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis.”  Without the presence of magnesium in the body, energy could not be produced or used in the cells, muscles could not contract and relax, and key hormones could not be synthesized to help control vital bodily functions.

Hundreds of studies have been published supporting magnesium’s benefits toward health

I have highlighted a few and how it can help with sleep :

  • Helps build a strong immune system  (being sick often hinders good sleep)
  • Assists with maintaining a healthy gut (woken by cramps and gas is common occurrence for small babies)
  • Magnesium aids in calming the nerves and relaxing the muscles
(Which in turn can help individuals to fall asleep or in my sons case help with growing pains)
  • Helps with the absorption of calcium and prevents osteoporosis from affecting your bones

(Calcium is used by the brain to produce the sleep inducing substance melatonin)
Other benefits include:

  • Helps with lowering blood pressure
  • Prevents toxins from affecting and harming you
  • Restores your daily energy levels as it also assists with improved absorption of nutrients
  • Helps manage diabetes
  • Prevention or easing of migraine headaches.

And believe me the list goes on.

The scary part is that once again due to our diets our magnesium levels have dropped by half in the last century.  Luckily for us Magnesium is easily absorbed through the skin and it has been clinically proven that bathing in Magnesium can better our Magnesium levels.

After doing all my research on Magnesium I can tell you that my whole family is now bathing in Magnesium Bath salts every night.”

We advise all clients to bath in Magnesium Saltz as well as to use it with your children as it can have a massive influence on a child’s sleep.
